COLLAGE
JOSEPH CORNELL AND MAGIC ASSEMBLAGE

In honor of the major retrospective of his work now
touring the country, study the life and work of Joseph Cornell, probably
the most
influential collage and assemblage artist of the 20th century. We will
investigate his imaginative and highly original body of work, which includes
collage, assemblage and film. Students will construct an assemblage of
their own using inspirations and techniques gathered from the study of
Cornell’s work.
Supplies: Supplies for taking notes, any special
objects you would like to incorporate into your piece. Papers, objects
and wooden boxes will be supplied.

DRAWING
SKETCHING IN NATURE, A WORKSHOP

Mullarkey
Gain insight into nature by recording your observations
of the natural subjects that surround us. This is a chance to sharpen
your
observation skills and learn about keeping a field sketchbook. Lectures
about composition, color, perspective and light will be included. Majority
of class will be spent outside: we will draw at The Fine Line and at
another nearby site. This class is suitable for all skill levels. A great
way to spend 3 days!
Supplies: Hardback sketchbook and mediums of your
choice. You might want to bring a chair to sit on. Pack a lunch for both
days.

DESIGN
IMPROVE YOUR WORK WITH GOOD DESIGN

Knowing the elements of good design will improve
your work. Review the elements of design through discussion and simple
exercises. A familiarity
with the basic elements of design will help problem solving in any artistic
discipline – clay, fiber, painting, any media or mixed media.
Supplies: Note taking supplies. Colored pencils, colored markers or pan watercolors.
Papers and handouts will be supplied.
