ENAMELING
I MADE THAT ENAMELED BOWL
Instructor: Carolyn Crosby
Come
join in making a one of kind bowl. Students will explore fold forming,
sinking, and sifting enameling techniques to create their own colorful
table piece. Students will create a unique dish with vibrant colors,
textures, and style to display in their homes. To shape the bowl we
will use the metal forming techniques, fold forming and sinking mention
earlier,
these techniques are for individuals with healthy wrists and arm function
only because these techniques require hammering. Enamel is glass that
is fused to metal using high heat from a kiln. Enamel comes in a huge
variety of colors, opaque and transparent, giving each student the
ability to make metal look like anything! In this one day workshop students
will
learn enameling fundamentals, a variety of sifting techniques and beginning
metal forming. All adults are welcome, all levels welcome.

toe shoes are required and long hair should be worn in a ponytail or
braid.

THAT’S STUNNING – LANDSCAPE
ENAMELED BROOCH
Instructor: Carolyn Crosby
In this six week course, we will
be creating a brooch out of silver using Champleve. Champleve is a technique
in which two planes are created on the metal. The recessed plane is inlayed
with enamel and the raised metal acts as the “contour lines” of
your enameled design. Each student will design there own landscape line
drawing and use the techniques sawing and soldering to transform their
drawing into a metal brooch. Once our metal is fabricated we will use
basse taille enameling, a sophisticated extension of champleve, to add
color and finish our piece. Basse taille is applying transparent enamel
over a textured surface.
Supplies: Sketch book and pencil, apron
(or wear old clothes you don’t mind getting dirty), dust mask, fine
and very fine sable brushes, and a small plastic paint tray.
Thursdays: Jun 26 - Jul 31; 6 – 9 PM • Kavanagh Bldg. Jewelry Studio
