Paint with pastels! Bring either Oil Pastels or Soft Pastels and learn how to mix & apply color directly to the painting surface; no pallet, brushes, or smelly toxic mediums required…and clean-up is easy!
Although oil pastel and soft pastel allow for a wide range of individual expression and style, the legacy developed from the French Impressionists and the American Tonalists who emphasized light, a direct application of color, and an intense feeling or mood in their paintings, will be studied in class. There will also be opportunities to paint outside, create from still life, work in mixed media and even develop paintings from photos and music, (portraits are also welcome subject matter).
This class is open to all competency levels; beginning students will learn basic pastel techniques and more advanced students will benefit from individual assistance at their easels.
All students will have both individual and class critiques during each class period. Come ready to create a pastel painting on the first day!

Class is designed for intermediate and advanced students who have a sincere desire to broaden their artistic ability and have fun doing it. Focus will be on self-creativeness through composition, color, harmony and originality. Class discussion and critiques will be a good part of our learning process. Basically, all participants will learn how to develop their own style and technique.

BEGINNING TRANSPARENT WATERCOLOR

You can do it! Using simple shapes, you will learn basic techniques and skills in developing the layering process, and through demonstrations will gain the knowledge of the way transparent watercolor works.
Supplies: Bring whatever supplies in watercolors you have. (Do not buy any yet.) Also bring a notebook and pencil, and a smiley face. There will be enough supplies available to you for the first class.

WATERCOLOR ON YUPO PAPER
Instructor: Rosemary Smillie
Yupo is a wonderful surface for artists who love to manipulate paint. Its slick plastic surface makes it easy to put on and even easier to remove or lift paint. Transparent watercolor is a versatile medium, in combination there lies the possibility of creating both abstract and realistic works of art. For a challenge and creative spark we will use rolling, spraying, texturing, adding and removing paint to make a strong visual statement.
Supplies: Supply list will be provided upon registration.
