“Nothing is secure but life, transition (and) the energizing spirit.”
R.W. Emerson
No words could ring more true for the world around us & for our beloved Fine Line! After 30 years, we find ourselves transitioning into a new era with great possibilities for growth & new opportunities. As many of you are aware, Sister Geraldine & Sister Peter Julian left Fine Line in July to begin a well-deserved retirement. At this time we are fortunate to be led by Lynn Caldwell’s energizing spirit as she assumes the full time position of Executive Director. In addition, she has hired two new staff members – Amanda Schleede and Robin Kittleson, talented artists and teachers who along with our Board of Directors will assist Lynn in keeping the Fine Line moving into the future.
In 2010 we again received a grant from the Illinois Arts Council which unfortunately was significantly reduced due to our state’s fiscal woes. In addition, a grant from The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley funded the replacement of exterior doors for both of our buildings. We have been connecting more with the community and have had several high school and other groups out for a Fine Line Experience. Our fundraising events like Raku Day and Uncommon Threads, while successful, are not enough. Even with these grants & our thoughtful financial management, we find there are always more general and studio maintenance issues & operating expenses that continue to stretch our budget.
We are currently in the late planning stages of acquiring land to create a new entrance into the Fine Line. Thisis a major project that will enhance both the accessibility and the visibility of our facility. In addition, an applicationhas also been made for a new Special Use permit which will allow us to enhance our programming and increase our exposure while better serving the arts community. Both of these projects would enable us to extend our hours of operation and therefore provide students with new class offerings.
We are so thankful for all you do and the time you spend making Fine Line a vital and exciting place, that not only enriches each of us, but also our community with the creative spirit so necessary to a fulfilled life! 2011 looks to be a year of growth and your gifts of time, effort and continued monetary support will help us continue.
This year our Annual Fundraising Appeal will run from November 15th – December 31st. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support the goal of the Fine Line Creative Arts Center to “nurture the creative spirit in an inspirational natural setting”.We are excited by what lies ahead in the New Year and look forward to your participation in reaching our current needs and future goals.
